Rebound effect
Jevon's paradox

Turning on lights consumes energy. LED or not, consumption isn't zero!

With energy prices so high these days, it's easy to save money and energy at the same time.

rebound effect
Jevon's paradox also named « rebound effect »

To sum up this paradox in the case of lighting: LEDs consume nothing*, so we can use 4 times more of them!
*compared to an old lightbulb

Jevon's paradox
Paradoxe de Jevon route
Adding a new lane to reduce traffic jam.... increases the traffic!

You think acting on a good way, but globaly, the opposite happens.

Ancient home ligthing

Lighting used to be expensive: a simple lamp was used to light up the outside at night, and was switched on when you went out to get something.
But LED lighting has become affordable and easy to install. What's more, their power consumption is much lower than that of an incandescent bulb!
So, let's light up with LEDs!

Current home lighting

Because power consumption is so low, you can afford to use.... a lot more!
In the end, power consumption is almost identical, but light pollution is increased indiscriminately!
Simply because it's cheap and looks good...
